Once you have completed your initial treatment for gum disease, our dentist and team will schedule a series of regular visits for you to receive periodontal maintenance. Dr. Tyler Morehart provides this care to help prevent gum disease from making a resurgence in your mouth and causing additional harm to your oral health and smile.
You will need to visit Morehart Dentistry once every three months (or more frequently as directed) to receive this type of treatment. Periodontal maintenance involves thorough cleanings above and below the gumline to remove plaque, tartar and bacteria from your mouth. This helps prevent gum disease from returning and progressing.
We typically recommend visits every three months as this is about the amount of time needed for biofilm to develop. Disease-causing bacteria tend begin to flourish between three and 12 weeks, and by providing a thorough cleaning at the 12 week (three month) mark we can remove this biofilm and keep you condition under control
Gum disease can be devastating to your oral health, so if you notice any signs of gum disease or if you have receive treatment for the disease we strongly encourage you to make and keep these regular appointments with our dentist and team. We are committed to helping you achieve and maintain good oral health throughout your life.
